Anthony N Pritchard (OH 1954-1959)
Members of the Pritchard Family called the Club to advise us of the death of Anthony Pritchard ( OH 1954 - 1959 ) in May 2004.Tony had been diagnosed with liver cancer at the age of 63 not long after taking a well earned holiday to Dubai in 2003. His passing so soon after his return home naturally became a major shock to his relatives and all who knew him as a long standing member of the St Mary's community and tourism on the Isles of Scilly. When Tony left HCS in 1959, he entered the hotel industry, firstly gaining his MHCIMA qualification at Battersea College of Advanced Technology ( later forming part of the University of Surrey ) before serving apprenticeships at various London hotels. He married Jacky and soon after moved to the Scilly Isles where they acquired premises in St Mary's which they converted into a small fully licensed private hotel. They called it Harbourside as it is situated on The Quay. The hotel is open all year round with well appointed accommodation and food served to a high standard. Because of its location Tony made sure that each and every window boasts panoramic views of the sea, including storage rooms and public toilets !!Tony loved life on the island and had remained there with his wife and family for over 40 years. He had six children, two boys Mark & Julian and four girls Louisa, Amelia, Emma & Helena. The latter now runs the hotel with one of her brothers, with mother maintaining a close eye on things whilst keeping busy elsewhere in St Mary's with holiday lettings. He always used to say that it was the sea air which contributed to his having so many children !! He will be missed by all the Pritchard clan and of course the wider island community plus his regular guests who used to return year after year.
