OH Annual Dinner in London 2013
A diverse group enjoyed a superb meal and talked well into the night in the exquisite surroundings of the Royal Academy of Arts restaurant. Former pupils spanning 68 years of school life chatted amongst the sculptures and paintings."A terrific venue and when I have the pleasure of speaking to our former pupils, I am always amazed by all they have done and achieved after HCS. There is such diversity in all they do" said Paul Smith."It was lovely to see so many new faces at this year's annual dinner and to enjoy another great venue. The service was seamless" reported Claire Morgan-Jones, Development Director.OHs had gathered around 6.30pm for pre-dinner drinks in the reception beneath the main exhibition area before moving into the restaurant to partake of a delicious three-course meal.THE MENUAs well as vegetable consommé, there was trout & scallops tartare with tabico & soda crisps or a generous salad as a starter. For the main course we were offered either Dorset guinea fowl with spring root vegetables, hazelnuts & thyme jus, or pollock & cockles with sea fennel sauce. For vegetarians, there was a delightful dish consisting of ricotta & spinach Gnudi with crispy shallots. For our dessert there was either a lemon meringue tart served with raspberry sorbet or a delicious house crumble made with apple & rhubarb accompanied by a very tasty custard. As a third alternative, guests could choose a beautifully boozy sherry trifle with roast hazelnuts! A cheeseboard would have also been available for those without a 'sweet tooth'.ANNOUNCEMENTS & TOASTSAs this was a public restaurant with other diners in the room, we were somewhat restricted regarding speeches. However, Hon. President Andrew Davies rose to welcome everyone and to thank Claire Morgan-Jones, School Development Director for organising the event. He gave way to the Head, who briefly invited us all to take home copies of the spring edition of Blue & Gold being a quarterly HCS journal telling us all about activities at the school. Peter Fairman-Bourn then took the opportunity to jointly propose a toast to Her Majesty The Queen ( this being the 60th Anniversary of her Coronation ) and to The School.
