John D B Lambert (OH 1948-1955)
John David Barry Lambert formerly of Hereford. Suddenly on Friday 9th December, at home in Chicago. A much loved brother, father and grandpa.

John became a House Monitor in West House 1948-1955 while at the Cathedral School, was CSM in the CCF, Captain of Boats and Vice-Captain of the 1st XV. As well as being a committee member of the Debating Society and a keen chess player, his other notable extra-curricular activity included the Dramatic Society. Headmaster Jack Hopewell had introduced a House Acting Competition during JDBL’s time at HCS so, apart from performing in School Plays held annually in the Shire Hall, John also took the lead role in a short play by Dennis Johnston called “A Fourth for Bridge” in his final year. The event was based on the British Drama League Festival that was hosted annually by the City of Hereford. On leaving school in July 1955, John carried out his National Service in the Army before going up to Birmingham University to study engineering.

John flew over from Chicago to the UK in 2010 and was a guest at our annual OHiL Autumn Luncheon staged at Doggett’s Coat & Badge, SE1 on Thursday 4th November 2010. That particular reunion became a truly intenational event because John was one of several OHs present that day who had travelled to London from overseas, including France and Australia.
